hooookay!
So it's been over a week since I posted because I've noticed evil blogger is slowly erasing my past. I'm not even sure if doing this will fix it... maybe it has a bug? But I'm trying to move my blog to my own server as a ploy to keep some of my old entries before blogger totally destroys them. Anyways for being patient and waiting for me to get back I have a little editorial from last tuesday for you. I call it "The Basketball Ragequit." and it goes like this:

As some of you probably know, I play competitive basketball twice a week at those kind of local comps in stadiums and leisure centres all around australia. My team on tuesday nights is kinda crap. We have all these tall guys and athletic people, and some of us even have quite a bit of skill, but we don't win very often.

Tonight we were struggling along as per usual, but the other team was pretty crap as well, so it was like a battle of the nubtards. We'd throw the ball out of bounds, then they'd come down and shoot an airball etc. etc. Anyway every time I drove to try and score (thats where you like run towards the ring) they'd just push me over, so pretty soon two of the guys had four fouls and were getting annoyed at the refs. I was also trash talking this dude telling him he couldn't shoot, and he was doing the same to me... it's all part of the fun. Henceforth I shall refer to this guy as "angry man".

Towards the end of the game there was about thirty seconds left, and I was on a fast break, and two of their team just tackled me. So of course they got an unsportsmanlike foul (not going for the ball) and that means I get two free throws (worth one point each) and the ball back. The guy who fouled me went spastic at the refs and got ejected from the game. We were down by three points at this stage. I missed the first shot (much to the delight of angry man) but made the second, and of course I let him know about it. We imbounded the ball, and i drove again and he fouled me. I missed the shot and the refs called play on. So I had a bit of a cry at the ref and then bumped angry man to say "thanks a lot for fouling me chump". It was about this time that right in front of the ref he decides to go mental and start pushing me. He gets ejected. His friend who was also pretty upset at this point pipes up with the most classic thing I've ever heard in my 12 years of basketball "That's it, I'm not playing anymore" and he walks off. So now there's three of the other team left. They pretty much just shrugged their shoulders and walked off as well.

Now this might be understandable except that THEY ARE STILL WINNING THE GAME and there's only eight seconds left. I made both my free throws to tie up the score, and with no opposition players left on the court a guy on my team just passes the ball to me and I lay it up uncontested for the win. Meanwhile the other team is telling the refs how they need to go back to miniball because they don't have any idea of how to ref etc. etc. etc.

In all my years of playing basketball, this is the first time I've ever seen anyone ragequit for any reason, let alone ragequitting when you're winning by two with less than a minute left, but hey - I'm not complaining.
